Event Twenty-Five.

I'd like to creep into the wood
And see the bonnets blue,
And hear the bluebells ringing loud,
I wish I could -- don't you?

t's another day, another month, and another time for people to show up in the well. You'd better go rescue them! Never mind the fact that you woke up with a flower in your hands.

It's probably fine. Don't mind it at all. It's not like it's hard to ignore a little flower.

(At least, not until the effects start to kick in. Better go rescue the people in the well before they do.)

Oh, right. Even the people in the well have flowers, so... things are going to be a little ridiculous very quickly, when all of those side effects kick in. Have fun!

Welcome to Awash's Twenty-fifth event log, everyone! Further information on this event can be found here at the OOC post. You are welcome to make your own logs and posts for this event!

If there are any questions, please ask them here. Thank you!

It's never to late to start.

[ .... ]

Even negative feelings for others apparently "counts". [ Not that she'd recommend it.

And that he doesn't form relationships easily make her wonder further about him. Perhaps he doesn't trust others as easily, or maybe he's been burned in the past. She can understand the need to be cautious, to keep oneself distant.

She speaks up again, this time reassuring. ]
But... please don't feel like you must form these "bonds". If you feel that it's safer for you to not interact with others, don't force yourself. I know that sometimes, forming bonds can... be difficult.

[He's doubtful about that and it's sort of reflected in his eyes. But he doesn't say anything about it.]

It's not a question of safety. I just don't think I have the right temperament for things like that. [And there's that pride again! Because compared to admitting that he has trust issues or self-esteem issues it's less embarrassing to just be unlikeable.]
pyrafect: (c019)

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-14 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
....Sometimes [ Her tone is careful. ] It doesn't matter what your temperament is. You can be the kindest person in the world, and you still might not make meaningful bonds. [ She repeats, this time with a bit of a sigh, closing the book through which she had been looking.

Replacing it back on its spot on the shelf, she selects another one, this one much heavier than the last. ]

What I mean is, you can find someone who shares the same interests or hobbies as you. [ She opens up the book. ] So.

What is it that you enjoy? Reading? [ She flips a page. ] Baking? [ ....Okay, maybe baking is too traditionally feminine of a hobby. ] Marital arts? [ She knows by now not to mention "science!!" to cultivators, though, so she won't suggest it. ] Learning different magics?

[He doesn't think it'd work. Still, he thought about it as he placed the book back.]

I enjoy reading. Martial arts are a given as well as cultivation. [He thought about it as he ran a finger over the spine of another book.] Music. And I build weapons and mechas.

[And he liked eating sweets but that seemed childish.]
pyrafect: (067)

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-14 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ She looks up from the book she's flipping through, brow raised slightly. She decides to inquire further, curious. ]

You build weapons and, ah, mechas...?

[ Well, that certainly sets him apart from the other cultivators here. ]
wooden_one: (neutral | resting bitch face)

[personal profile] wooden_one 2019-07-14 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[He gives up any pretenses of looking like he's reading. In the end, he's the sort of person who likes to focus entirely on one thing at a time.]

Our sect's territories include a lot of poor villages and some are fairly far away. Creating a mecha for those areas that can defend them from monsters and ghosts when the need arises helps lighten our sect's load.

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-14 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Aha, a section on flowers.

She is paying attention to him and what he says, however, and looks up briefly from the page. It seems that his sect also has a duty to defend the area around them. ]

Forgive me... but in your world, what is a mecha?

[ It sounds like machines, but she doesn't want to assume that what she knows as the colloquial term for mecha are the same as those found in his world. ]
wooden_one: (surprise | !?)

[personal profile] wooden_one 2019-07-15 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Human-shaped mechanical tools powered by spiritual energy.

[The way she asked that though...]

Are they different where you're from?

[And he's not just trying to make small talk here, from the way he turns to give her his full attention in an obvious way, it's clear he wants to know.]
pyrafect: (0262)

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-15 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Her eyes widen. ] I never would have guessed that spiritual energy could be used as a source of energy to power an... engine for a machine. That's-- incredible. [ Actually, in retrospect, maybe she should have? Wei Wuxian has his magical tools, although none of them are human-shaped. From speaking with other cultivators, spiritual energy seemed much more, well, metaphysical. Clearly it has more properties than she had originally thought.

That, or this man's type of spiritual energy is unique to his world. ]
...But to answer your question, it sounds like these mechs are akin to androids and robots from our own world. [ She even used to live with an android in town! Not any more, though. ] They are tools in the very same sense, used for assistance, convenience. [ War. ] Almost all of the technology has been lost, though.
wooden_one: (neutral | resting bitch face)

[personal profile] wooden_one 2019-07-16 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Spiritual energy can have many applications.

[So many!]

What are the difference between androids and robots? [He doesn't need to ask how information like that could be lost. It can happen all too easily.] How much information is left? Is there enough to recreate the technology?
pyrafect: (c22)

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-16 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ For his questions... she simply shrugs. ] As I said, the technology has been lost for a while. They existed at one point, and that is... all.

[ To the humans upon the earth, anyway. She does has his answers to the (her world's) distinction between robots and androids, but if she just said the tech is lost, she shouldn't actually know the difference in the first place. ]

I imagine our world would be fascinated with the application of spiritual energy to recreate them. [ She leans forward upon the table. ] Is it something you can replicate here?

Perhaps remnants of it still exists somewhere. Where I'm from there are three forbidden spells that are mostly lost, but if one were determined enough incomplete texts about them can still be found...for better or for worse.

[And technology like mecha, he knows, can just as easily be good or bad. It largely depended on the intentions of the maker and user.]

I plan to try. Though I'd have to see what materials are available and if there's anyone here who can work with metal.

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-16 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Three forbidden spells....

She keeps that in the back of her mind. That's definitely something she'll have to ask about later. ]
A few helpful mechs about the village wouldn't be too bad... [ She pauses, thoughtful. ] If they have no emotion to begin with, if they are the ones to cut down the trees instead of one of us, they won't be effected. We could stop this village from being overrun by them, possibly.

I can... help, if you would like. I know how to weld and build. [ Dad was an architect yada yada ]

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-16 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
....And I also know where a stock of metal is.

[ Months ago she had been captured with a dragon alongside someone else. They had defeated it, but the dragon in particular had a lustrous metallic hide. ] But if I help you, I would like to ask something of you as well.

[ She would help him anyway, but. This seems like a good incentive to use. ]
wooden_one: (surprise | !?)

[personal profile] wooden_one 2019-07-16 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods.]

And in case of danger, they can be stationed near those who cannot defend themselves.

[Really, mecha were quite useful! He'd mostly done the building on his own, but some pieces had required the skills of an actual blacksmith.]

...if you want. I'm not...always easy to work with.

[But she knows where to find some metal! That could be a good place to start.] Of course. That's only fair.

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-16 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I have a friend here-- Xie Lian, another cultivator. [ She begins to explain, looking up from the book. ] For the longest time, I've been thinking of crafting a sword for him, but I've been... quite busy with a number of other projects. [ And shenanigans, Chroma likes to throw so many curveballs that nothing really gets done. ]

You mentioned to make weapons... So. Would you assist me in forging one for him? We'll be using the same stock of metal. [ And to inform him of that: ] The metal is from a dragon we fought months ago. When we have time, I will show it to you.
wooden_one: (surprise | !?)

[personal profile] wooden_one 2019-07-16 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah, yes. He'd met the man. At least, it limits the choices to the sort of swords he knows.]

If I can get the right tools.

[He doesn't want to outright promise something but now that she's asked it he plans to do whatever he can to make it happen.

...hopefully, there's a forge somewhere in town.

Okay, but that metal source.]

A dragon? [He's thinking...celestial creatures. Then again, there were also demons of that sort. More importantly.] We could harvest its bones too.
pyrafect: (0273)

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-16 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
We could. [ She nods in agreement. ] ...Ah, I'm excited. [ It's this is excitement, it's quite a energetic-less sort. ]

I think he'll be quite pleased with a sword. And crafting your mechs.... can help a number of people here, too.
wooden_one: (neutral | resting bitch face)

[personal profile] wooden_one 2019-07-17 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[He mostly alternates between looking severe, angry and like a dead-fish so he's not the best gauge of other people's excitement.

Though he takes note of it, in case this isn't normal...or in case it was.]

If we ground the bones to powder, we could even mix some into the metal when it's melted.

[Which...there's no telling what'd happen if they did that since these may not be the same dragons he's thinking of.]

A weapon may not always be necessary, but having one is certainly better than not. [He says even though he doesn't seem to be carrying any himself.

And he knows the mechas will be helpful...though if they find this metal he'd rather not take sole credit for it...or any, for that matter.]
pyrafect: (1)

[personal profile] pyrafect 2019-07-17 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[ At his mention of mixing metal with bone, she seems just a little perplexed. It's not an alloy one would find in her own world, that's for certain. But he moves onto talks of weapons, and... ]

What sorts of weapons are you used to building? [ Beside mechas. ]
