Wishes come true

WHO: Crowe Altius, Nyx Ulric, Tonbokiri, Maribelle, Thancred, anyone else who would like to join in
WHERE: Somewhere in town, probably Nyx's house in Bluo
WHEN: During the ink and noteboks event, probably around Jun 20
WHAT: Pooling ink together to wish the trees from the forest to stay beyond walls Nyx has been organizing the building of.
WARNINGS: No warnings currently but if anything changes, will update.

[ Crowe's fine with talking over the forums. She's fine with one-on-one interactions, mostly, and even a gathering such as Pyra's party or the ... positivity party. But being a group like this, with a common goal and expected at least some level of trust... She's not at her best.

Still. She takes a deep breath. ]

So... anyone have thought out phrasing we should use? I hear the wishes written in this come pretty literally so we should be careful.

It'll take some thought. Individually I'm sure we'll all miss something important. As for writing it, maybe you could, Tonbokiri? I know you've got a way with words that's far more sophisticated than anything I could come up with.

[He's so proud of Crowe for standing her ground like this. She hadn't had a single open objection to working together on this and he knows just what that means for her. Nyx had told her a while ago that he'd trust Tonbokiri at least with his life, but the others are more of a wild card in his experience.

Trust is hard earned for both of them these days.

Still, they're given little choice with the ever growing threat, and if this helps all of them sleep better at night he'll take the risk and stand between her and her fears while he's at it.]

Working together, we ought to be able to spot and loopholes. Ideally- we'd like to see the forest retreat from the space of the town, and not come back- but I can't help feeling even stating it that way might let something slip through.

[He's met Maribelle and Tonbokiri, and those faces he trusts- and they are all working towards this. He's willing to see where this goes.]

[While a little surprised at Nyx's recommendation of him to do the writing, he nods in acceptance of the request.]

Very well. If I may, then.
I agree that straight-forward is the best approach.

[Rubbing the side of his chin in thought, he then speaks what he intends to write:]

'The forest of this place, that has encroached upon the town we call Chroma, starts to recede back to its center. Quicker than the pace it had approached at, like a turtle startled back into its shell, the trees return back past the boundary of the town. One length, then two, for as far as the magic of this spell will take it.'

[The pen that came with his ink is an unfamiliar shape for him compared to a calligraphy brush, but he carefully takes it up and dips it in the little bit of ink they'd tried mixing together, awaiting his comrades' approval.]

[Eager to see the spell at work, and wanting to ensure that the magic worked as intended, the gathering split up to check on the growth of the forest.

Having not worked together with Crowe yet, he asked her to accompany him, and now they are approaching the line of trees at Ruga's edge.]

My thanks again for arranging this, Crowe-dono. Bringing together others and forming bonds is something the Town thinks well of, so it is good that you had this idea.

Recede back to its own center. We don't want it going in to the center of Chroma.

[ The rest of it sounds good to her, though she frowns at Nyx with question for confirmation. ]

[ She doesn't mind - she's pretty certain that Nyx can take care of himself for a little while, at least - though she's not exactly... the warmest companion. Though the thanks kind of fluster her. A tiny bit. ]

Hey, somebody had to do it, and Nyx's had his hands a little full. And I heard that big things take up a lot of ink but we could work together on them...

[ It's nothing. Honest. Just getting things done, or she tries to, at least. She's not exactly aspired to any leadership position, so she doesn't usually think of things in perspective too much. Well, things that need to be done. ]

Even knowing that 'someone has to do it', not all will. Your initiative is appreciated.

[He is entirely sincere, but he wonders if perhaps she's not used to being thanked. He thought she'd seemed uncomfortable for a moment there...]

And, it is a good opportunity to make your acquaintance properly. Again, as you know, forming relationships is important.

[ She's a soldier. She's been living the 'someone's got to do it, I can do it, might as well do it' life for nearly a decade. Sure, she wanted to live, but in the end...

Well, anyway. She waves a hand. ]

Yeah, thanks. I still think bringing me here, if that's the goal, is a bit... unexpected.

[ Maybe if it had been before Luche. Maybe.. But as things are... Small sigh. ]

But again, it's gotta be done, right? To keep things going here, however things may be, back home.

At this point, I don't think Mr. White has any goal beyond us forming bonds so that we can restore colours to this place.

If it's any consolation, I believe that time is somehow being manipulated while we are here, so that our absence back home is going unnoticed.
I have encountered a couple of comrades from home, and none of them noticed anything amiss about, well, the 'me' there.

[He rubs at the back of his head.] My apologies. Although I make use of time travel, the details of it escape me. [He shrugs with a small smile.] That it works, and that my master is not wanting for my presence, is enough.

Nah, nobody's waiting for me. The one I'm sworn to is here, if nothing else.

[ Though... she doesn't sound relieved by that part. Just tired. And she's very, very certain in the first part. ]

Don't answer if you don't want to explain, but 'Master' is a pretty demanding term.

I do not mind explaining at all. [He grins a little-] I wonder how different being 'sworn to' someone is from having a 'master'. But we all have our situations.

Aruji is my master because he is the one who summoned me and gave me this physical form. Offering my loyal service to him in return for this life is the least I can do.

Before explaining further I would first ask, do you happen to be from a world that has the country of Japan, or have you have heard of the term 'tsukumogami'?

Well... being sworn to serve a King, whether as soldier or subject, is slightly different than a Master. Tends to be less personal, for one thing.

[ She shakes her head. ]

Don't think I've heard of either. I'm from the Kingdom of Lucis, on Eos.

A fair enough point. [Although, there are situations...]

[The name of that Kingdom gives him pause, hand raised to his chin. Hasn't he heard that before...? Ah.]

You are from the same world as Nyx-dono, then? My apologies, I hadn't realized. [He bows his head apologetically, then continues,]

As for tsukumogami, we are the spirit of an object that has been well-used for over a hundred years. Aruji has the powerful ability to summon such spirits from blades and give them human form. Thus, I am the human-form tsukumogami of this very spear, Tonbokiri.

[He holds up the sheathed spear he has been carrying before him.]

I must warn you to not touch the blade. I am named from when I cut a dragonfly in two while lying at rest, and my blade is still as sharp.

[Because for some reason, everyone reaches out to touch his blade. He cannot understand why they would so risk themselves...
But the warning thus given, he unsheathes the spear, showing her the side that has symbols carved into it. Those symbols match the ones on his chest, which are easily seen today as he's wearing his battle uniform.
This is the most simple way to show that he is indeed the spear.]

Yeah, Nyx and I go way back.

[ Beat.

Blink.

And, no, she's not trying to reach the blade, she's got a long history of knowing how to handle weapons.

Errrr... Physical weapons. Without hurting herself.

Anyway. Crowe frowns a bit, trying to process that. On the one hand, okay, it's not like magic is exactly surprising to her. On the other hand. ]

Do any weapons... or things that've been used a lot over that long get such spirits?

[It is always interesting what questions people think of when he speaks of his nature.
Tonbokiri thoughtfully rubs the side of his chin.]

I myself only have experience with blades, that is, various swords and the three of us Great Spears, gaining such spirits. However in Japanese tradition, nearly any object could gain a spirit. The story of a terrorizing umbrella-spirit is quite popular. [He grins softly as he resheathes his spear.]

Does your world happen to have any similar lore?

[ She's a soldier in the tail end of a war that has been fought, off and on, for centuries. She's both trained and fought with weapons that were not newly made but instead handed down through the generations of people who fought and possibly died protecting Lucis. Some of them crafted more than well enough to have lasted centuries.

It's a valid question. ]

I... see. No, I don't think so.

[ She frowns. ]

And I'd think something like that. It'd have been known. There are folk enough who are close enough to the Astrals to have known.

[ The King of Lucis. The Oracle. ]

Though if nobody had the specific ability to ... summon? Would that mean that nobody would have known?

[His eyebrows raise in surprise at that question, but he nods slowly.]

Interesting. That is a very good point. It is possible that there are spirits within well-used items in your world, but simply have no way of manifesting.
