Event Twenty-One

Sometimes I feel happy, Sometimes I feel sad. Sometimes I feel curious, Sometimes I feel mad. Sometimes I feel silly, Sometimes I feel surprised. How many feelings, Do I have inside?

t's another regular, normal day in the Town. There's absolutely nothing to show that anything could possibly be wrong; the birds are chirping, the sky is bright, and everything is absolutely, entirely wrong. This time, though? The problem is internal. Slowly, bit by bit, people are going to stop feeling entirely like themselves -- or maybe even stop feeling at all. And suddenly that nice, bright day doesn't seem quite so nice and not quite so bright any longer after all. Welcome to Awash's Twenty-First event log, everyone! [The self-confidence Xie Lian had a few moments ago has been slowly fading over the course of this conversation as the feelings which had originally drowned it come bubbling back up again; giving that little speech seems to have been the last of it, and he softens quite a bit once he's finished speaking, looking a little embarrassed at having said so much.

And at getting that headpat, while we're at it (though he doesn't pull away).]

[ Look, he can’t not warn Jim about her VIP status. How would they ensure proper hospitality otherwise!! And he’s so used to Nero just casually declaring her own royal status too… ]

[ But he’s quite visibly surprised at her reply regardless. She doesn’t want it made known that she is royalty? She’s well within her rights to—but ah, of course. Given the way he behaves around her, this is only another means of protecting her identity.

And more than that…he feels stupid for not having considered something so vital for her in the first place— ]

[ Magilou doesn't shy away. In fact, she doesn't move at all. From the way she's fidgeting, Berserker might be like a pot half-watched, ready to boil but still simmering for the time being; Magilou hasn't even begun to stir. And yet, somehow, when they collide, their combined emotions are enough for two, instead of being too much.

The flowers, untouched as they are, stand watch over their conversation like silent guardians. Magilou knows if she so much as reaches out to touch them, she might be playing with fire. But they're drenched in too many memories for her to bother. ]

If you're asking if I'm going to run... No, I don't care enough to. [ It's frank, but true. She shrugs. ] I've dealt with worse. I've dealt with scarier, too. Considering we went from that nice impact on the ground to this, it's fine.

[ Pointing to the flowers, she gives Berserker a more intense look than she's managed all day. Her eyes aren't cold, but they're devoid of anything other than curiosity. ]

You want to take those somewhere, or put up a fence or something? You seem to like them.

[As it connects, Akira can't help but smile, thin but real. It looks like it worked, at least as a temporary measure.]

Do you feel it now? The despair at what you've done?

[The Persona fades, though Akira doesn't come closer, his knife still clutched in his hand.]

It's only a fraction of what it should be... but it's a start.

[ Everyone seems to say that about him, but no one knows just how blackened his state is! Luo Binghe, Demon Sovereign Protagonist, moved by a few memories of his Shizun? Ha!! You put that on the message board and people will think that there is a romance cooking, okay?! ]

Please. This is hardly enough to sink a boat. Everything gets a little wet when you're surrounded by water, you know.

[ In his mind, he clenches his fist. He can't help but be moved a little by his words. Only a person with a heart made of pure ice wouldn't feel a little bit of something from that kind of statement! Shen Qingqiu, however, likes to try to not be moved by such things. But this is only because he just got over saying how he doesn't want Xie Lian to be put in danger -- and his own life tends to get quite dangerous because that's just the life of a villain!

So, he is currently at a bit of an impasse with himself. ]

If I ever need assistance... [ He decides to say it that way. Trailing off, this way Xie Lian can fill in the gaps and he can claim ignorance later. What a childish thing to do! Who am I? How old am I? This old man should try to be a little less of a snake!! But he also doesn't think it's right to leave things quiet as he goes to war with himself, either! ]

[Ah. Akira can't help but grin a little at the misunderstanding.]

After the invitation went out, it's not like it mattered, who you told. Don't worry about it, you were just making conversation. It was my fault, anyway.

Do you... have any ideas? About how to, er, make it up to maidens?

[ Since you brought it up, and all. ]

...A lot of factors go into creating a nice person.

[That's the scientific answer, but is that all? They aren't like most people he's known. Not like most people who use androids as tools and give them little thought beyond that. Not like the people cause damage to their androids for their own pleasure.]

But yes, colloquially, you would say their hearts make them nice. [Even if a heart is only a muscle that circulates blood...]

I cannot do things that are illegal, and some things are outside my programming limitations. [He can't do literally anything, after all.] But other than that, yes. My function as an android is to serve humans as they wish.

Not a bad idea! I've been working on making some rubber putty in my spare time - perhaps that'll be enough to plug the holes. I'm sure they aren't very big. It'll be easier than building another boat, at least.

[ rather than head straight for another boat, he emerges onto the beach, first, wringing out his clothes tiredly. He's wearing a bunch of Victorian-era jackets, the whole package, and therefore, he is really heavy and fairly exhausted from lugging his water-laden clothes all that distance. Give him a second. ]

[ She turns over his hand. ] Which is a good thing, because their hearts are weak things. Fragile, breakable. The worst part of them, absolutely wretched. They would be so much better without their hearts. To be like you, or me.

[ She releases his hand. ]

[ She is so, so so going to apologize for her poor behavior here. ]

[ Pyra, in the meantime, is perfectly okay just watching him wring out his clothes and... not helping at all. Like an asshole! The water may have made her feel cold, but her emotions are numb enough for her to not simply care about that, either. ]

[ he stares for a few moments, trying to discern if Akira is pulling one over on him or not. Of course, in his current state, his capacity to be concerned about it is pretty low, even being around someone he's close to... so he doesn't think about it for very long. He doesn't seem like he's lying. Good enough! ]

Seriously? Is that part of your "Persona" powers, too? [ a beat. ] ... Did I give you that? I'll tell you right now, I'm not psychic in the least.

Like three. [ And that's plenty considering his bad reputation -- it's not necessarily every day you come across people who are happy to have a bandit within arms length, especially whilst defenseless. ] I never said any of that, and I already know you'd say something sarcastic and I can tell already that I won't wanna punch you... so it'd be an opportunity lost.

Alright! [ Choubee is curious of the doll that appears almost out of thin air, though he keeps his comments and questions to himself for the time being -- ultimately distracted by the idea of indulging in brutally killing demons. And while it seems to be with the motive of helping her respond emotionally to the situation, it's not as if Choubee feels any genuine sympathy towards the creatures.

They seem to reappear in mass numbers, anyway, what is there to miss?

He follows her recommendation and gives her enough space, flashing a smile and nodding his head in the process. ] Go ahead. If anythin' I'll take care of the small fries that manage to live through whatever you've got planned.

Since he's been drawn here- it only stands to reason to do hat he can, doesn't it?

[ akira seems so satisfied with himself, and if dextera were in any other position, maybe he would find something wrong with that. as they both stand, however, this is the outcome he’d been angling for. no matter what akira does or doesn’t act like, they’ve both fulfilled what they came here to do. ]

[ Despite what he’d just said earlier, he can’t help but smile at that. Nero and Pyra might be far too goodhearted to really be mad at him despite everything, but at least Wei Wuxian knows how to take responsibility where it counts. ]

The old-fashioned way would be through a letter, perhaps with a gift humbly expressing your profound contrition.

[ The more modern methods are a little out of their depth at the moment… ]

Regardless, you are a clever man. No doubt they would be thrilled with anything you might come up with.

There is no danger here that wants a knight’s skill anyway, hence only the bard remains. And this bard is deeply interested in the newcomers who enter this world and the vast experiences they no doubt must hold.
